Every 80 Seconds, Cardiovascular Disease Claims a Woman's Life in the U.S.

Why BAC Matters

During a routine mammogram, an advanced AI tool can detect Breast Arterial Calcification (BAC)—calcium deposits that may be an early indicator of heart disease.

Identifying BAC provides valuable insight into cardiovascular health, giving women and their providers an opportunity to take proactive steps toward prevention and early intervention.

At Desert Radiology, Mammo Enhance Heart empowers women with a more complete picture of their health—because protecting your heart is just as important as protecting your breast health.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death in women despite significant advances in diagnostics and treatments. Breast Arterial Calcification (BAC) is a calcium build up in the arteries of the breast, which has been linked to an increased risk for CVD in women.

12–42% Of women have BAC—most don’t know it.

Early detection of BAC can lead to preventive strategies, including lifestyle changes or medical intervention to manage risk factors.

FAQs

What is Mammo Enhance Heart?
Mammo Enhance Heart  is a program launched by Radiology Partners that uses an FDA-cleared, artificial intelligence (AI) based software intended to detect the presence or absence of BAC.

Does this require an additional exam?
No, with Mammo Enhance Heart, a screening mammogram serves as a two-for-one exam with no additional time required and no additional radiation.

How is it detected on my mammogram?
The software reads your mammograms to determine the presence or absence and location of breast arterial calcification. An expert radiologist will review your results to confirm the findings.

What happens next if breast arterial calcifications are present on my mammogram?
The presence of calcified arteries is a benign, incidental finding that may suggest calcification in other vascular arteries warranting further clinical evaluation. It is recommended to consider follow-up with a primary care physician, OBGYN or specialist regarding this finding to discuss your general health.

How will I get my results?
The results of Mammo Enhance Heart will be available alongside the results of your screening mammogram.

Is Mammo Enhance Heart covered by insurance?
Mammo Enhance Heart is not currently covered by insurance and is offered as a self-pay service at $110. You may also use your HSA or FSA account to cover the cost.
Special Offer: For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, add Mammo Enhance Heart to your screening mammogram for only $90.

How often should I get this assessment?
It is recommended to repeat the screening every year with your annual mammogram.

I am already on a statin and being seen by a cardiologist. Do I need this?
By incorporating breast arterial calcification screening into regular mammography appointments, healthcare providers can track the progression or stabilization of breast arterial calcifications. This ongoing assessment may offer critical insights into overall risk factors and the overall health status of patients, making it a beneficial practice for managing long-term health.

Are there ages where this assessment makes sense? Am I too old or too young for a Mammo Enhance Heart screening?
All women may benefit from a BAC assessment regardless of your age. Identifying risk factors for your health is important at any age.
