Dr. Hales graduated from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. In 1994, he received his Medical Degree from the University of Utah, School of Medicine.
Dr. Hales completed his internal medicine internship from 1994 - 1995 at the University of Utah. He completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. In June of 2000 Dr. Hales finished his radiology fellowship at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Hales authored numerous research papers, which include Tc-99m Red Blood Cell Imaging of Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (2000) and Coexistent Parathyroid Adenomas and Hurthle Cell Tumors: Failure of Full Detection by Subtraction Method (1998). While attending the University of Utah, Dr. Hales served as an Assistant Researcher in the Radiology Department where he assisted in the protocol design and implementation of Interoperator and Interstudy Variation in MRI Measurement of Renal Vascular Flow, which contributed to an abstract presented at the 1993 Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiologists. He also served as a Genetic Technician at the University of Utah in the Department of Gynecology and Oncology, assisting in the protocol implementation and analysis of A Comparison of Binding Affinities of the E7 Proteins from Human Papilloma Viruses 11 and 16 to the Retinoblastma Supressor Gene. The results of this research were presented at the 1991 Human Papilloma Virus Conference in Washington. Dr. Hales is an editor/contributor to the “Slice of Life” Medical Education Media, funded by the University of Utah Educational Computer Committee. Dr. Hales joined Desert Radiology in 2003.
