Dr. Rao graduated from Government Medical College in Mysore, India with a Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery (MBBS). In 1997, Dr. Anil completed his general radiology residency at Government Medical College in Mysore, India. Following that, he concluded a second residency in neuroradiology at the National Institute of Mental Heath and Neurosciences in Bangalore, India.
Dr. Rao continued his medical training in the United States. In 2005, he completed his pediatric radiology and pediatric body MRI fellowships at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Prior to that, Dr. Anil concluded a neuroradiology fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University, and a vascular and interventional fellowship at Rush University/ Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He also finished an abdominal imaging fellowship at the University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. Dr. Rao is a reviewer of manuscripts for RadioGraphics and Pediatric Radiology and has received multiple honors and awards for his manuscript review/contributions, including the Editors’ Recognition Award from the RSNA and Pediatric Radiology.
Prior to joining Desert Radiology in 2018, Dr. Anil served as Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor of Pediatric Radiology at The Medical University of South Carolina. He has also worked as a Locum Physician at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Anil Rao has authored several chapters and peer reviewed papers. He also serves in various committees of the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR). Dr. Rao has participated in the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) practice parameters revisions for pediatric CT and MRI.
His areas of interest include pediatric radiology in radiation reduction techniques, body and musculoskeletal MRI including sports injuries imaging.
