Desert Radiologists Achieves ACR Accreditation

DESERT RADIOLOGISTS ACHIEVES ACR ACCREDITATION

January 1, 2008

Desert Radiologists is pleased to announce that it has completed the rigorous ACR accreditation submission process for all modalities achieving high practice standards for personnel, equipment and quality.  Thirty-eight submissions have achieved full accreditation with 4 machines awaiting final approval with anticipated completion by April 1, 2008.

“We are very proud of this achievement.  ACR accreditation demonstrates our commitment to quality care, patient safety and practice standards,” said William P. Moore II, Desert Radiologists CEO.

Diagnostic imaging includes multiple modalities (different types of tests and equipment) CT, MRI, mammography, nuclear medicine, PET, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy and ultrasound. The ACR accredits each of these modalities separately.

ACR accreditation ensures that our centers have voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to meet nationally accepted standards; personnel are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform and interpret medical images and administer radiation therapy treatments; equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment; and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines.

Federal standards state that all facilities providing mammography must be certified by the FDA and to be certified, a facility must be accredited. The FDA has designated the ACR as an accrediting body. Facilities seeking ACR accreditation in other modalities do so voluntarily.
